Dear Harry
I have just used the Blackbird line array system on one of the stages at the Celebration Dinner for the 2004 Sapphire Conference at BCEC. I just have to say how blown away I was by the sound of the system. On the rehearsal night I put on a CD and without any EQ the rig sounded great in what is not one of the worlds best sounding rooms, we were in Hall 2 which is an exhibition space with a high reflective roof. The design called for 4 FRO’s as delays at the request of the clients Production Manager to allow us to have an even spread of sound around the room and not be blasting at the stage and inaudible at the rear of the room. Even empty of punters (there would be about 2000 for the gig) it was clean and well defined mids and highs even at the back of the room. A single Groundswell sub provided the bottom end! Awesome!!!

A big band was the main live entertainment on this stage. During soundcheck there were several comments from those involved in the event as to how good the band sounded. At the end of the soundcheck I looked over to my rack and realised I had not yet EQed the system!! I never did. The PM commented how good it sounded at the rear of the room and was glad he insisted on the delays. I told him they were not turned on. They never did get a run!

The sound the next night for the event was even better. Add 2000 odd computer geeks to a bad room and it only improves the result. The sound was tighter and the difference in level from the front to the back of the room was not that great.

It was such a good thing to use an Australian designed line array and the use of the Lake Contours as you recommend added to the sound quality. I am a big fan of these superb (and again Australian!!!) processors.

Well guys, well done. I look forward to using the system again.
